-
Gardens designed for beauty and healing
Established by the owner, who is a qualified herbalist/permaculturist, the gardens include almost 200 varieties of highly valuable and beautiful medicinal plants.

-
Plants are rooted and ready to bloom
Garden development began in 2022, with the first plants being planted in the gardens in 2023, once the main landscaping work had been completed. The gardens are ready to be developed further and with a little love, the new owners of Casa das Flores will enjoy seeing their house of flowers come to life.

Quality medicinal, healing plants
A huge investment was made to select and grow plants of the highest quality, of organic origin. Some of the plants are also biodynamic, grown from seed. Each plant has been selected for its particular species, to ensure the highest quality of medicinal constituents and healing properties.

Working with nature
The gardens have been designed to be low maintenance, with perennial/hardy plants, which require little watering. With little care, these gardens will thrive no matter the weather. Being located in a sensitive wetland area, plants benefit from an abundant supply of water, all year round, providing nourishment to the soil. A permaculture/herbalism approach was used, to assess the landscape and introduce changes which work with nature. Read more about the local environment here.

Back garden
The back garden is west-facing, and is accessed via the living room in the main house. This garden feels like an extension of the home, acting as a family garden space, equipped with a trampoline, sandpit and swings. The garden is separated into two areas - one with flower beds and a huge loquat/nespera tree, with passionfruit climbing up into its branches. The second area, which is a raised terrace, is separated by a traditional wall feature, displaying a door and window from an old ruin. Stones from the land have been excavated and reused to set out the flower beds and terrace in a traditional style.

-
Driveway/walled garden
Two north-facing areas. One with a driveway, for vehicle access to the house, and the other area is a walled piece of land, which would be ideal for growing plants that do not want to be in the intense midday heat.

-
Terrace garden
Benefiting from the most spectacular view, positioned just outside the kitchen, this garden is a very special place to relax, take in the view, let the kitchen herbs inspire your next meal and the flowers nourish your soul.

-
Vegetable garden
An east-facing garden with pathways and terraced growing areas. There are 8 olive trees, as well as walnut and fig trees. There is a composting area, two storage rooms and a polytunnel. The beginnings of a productive vegetable garden.

Medicinal healing garden
An east-facing, landscaped, healing garden. The land has been separated into different areas by pathways and a central seating area. Each area has a medicinal theme to the quality of the plants growing there and huge, ancient olive trees create a spectacular feature on a raised terrace. There are a large number of medicinal plants growing in this garden, including some rare and endangered species. The land has been covered in a membrane, with gravel/stone used as a cover/mulch, which greatly reduces the amount of time spent weeding, prevents the sun from drying out the soil, as well as giving the space a calming/zen quality to it.
