Camellia japonica (Japanese camellia), proudly displays her ability to develop artistic control and skill, sharing her talents and beauty with the world like a Geisha. Observe the knowledge of sacred geometry in her perfectly organised flowers, and unfolding of the fundamental laws of the universe - can you tell I'm in awe? While the Roses and Peonies won't bloom until summer, Camellia brings a soft and romantic movement early in the year to the garden, inspiring the lover in us all.
Camellia sits on the terrace where I can enjoy her beauty from inside. Amongst the kitchen herbs she encourages me to overcome my inner chef critic, searching for perfection, and to simply create food with love from the heart.
As each of her flowers come to the end of their cycle, some form white streaks - a loss of pigmentation. A reminder of the transience of "perfection" and to share ourselves fully with the world, overcoming any fears of judgement.
